De-light-ful shopping!

You may remember that last year, we went all out for the Battle of Flowers, Jersey’s historical annual summer event! There was our huge flower display that wrapped along our shop front, our amazing painted windows, the tulip flower cart, and delft pottery inspired painted bike. We always take creating our fabulous windows seriously (especially when there are prizes involved!) and last year was a culmination and testament to all the team’s creativity. From drawing, painting, fitting, building, and carrying heavy items up and down three flights of stairs, it truly was a team effort in every sense of the word.

And this year…we are going even bigger, better, and brighter! We are partnering with the Parishes of Grouville and St. Helier (as our management team live in both Parishes, it was a bit of a no brainer!) to bring Diwali, the Festival of Light, to the St. Helier High Street. As a proudly ‘maximalist’ shop and lovers of all things colourful, we instantly were on board with the idea, and harnessing the joy, light, multi-culturalism, and community - everything that Diwali incorporates - resonates with our ethos at the shop. And so…the rest is history.

The St. Helier Town Takeover is a brilliant scheme that partners with the Battle of Flowers and their floats, looking to weave this historical event into the town centre. Each shop that takes part has a float, and creates window displays and shop front decoration that ties with their matching float. Not only does it make our town bright, interesting and joyful, but every little helps when injecting life back into our high street. We enjoyed taking part last year so much that we couldn’t wait to get started again this year.

So without further ado, we’ll let you in to what our window incorporates (in case you haven’t seen it yet!). It has perhaps been one of our more challenging projects, with garlands of red, orange and yellow hanging down from our first floor windows (which was quite something to achieve, we’ll tell you now!), a big and beautiful installation from Muse More Than Flowers with more garlands, hand painted windows curtesy of our talented Manager Verity, lots of lanterns, and floral and hanging pieces by mandalas by our Assistant Manager Clem. We are channeling all the reds, oranges and yellows so synonymous with the Festival of Light.

And as always, please vote for our display in the Town Takeover. We’ll have a QR code stuck to the door for you to be able to vote. We are always so appreciative of your votes as so much time and effort goes into our displays (but also…we are very competitive, too). Last year was a real success, with lots of votes for all the displays, and many a comment on how much more lively and bright the High Street in particular looked. By voting and interacting with all the displays across town, it ensures that we will have another year of a colourful town centre, and the potential for more and more schemes such as the Town Takeover to bring excitement to our town.

So this July, enjoy the floral brightness that lines our High Street and shops around St Helier (and if you love our display, be sure to give us a vote!).
