Spring essentials

It feels relatively safe to say now that we have experienced the Spring Equinox and Easter is almost here, that we are now finally in Spring. The evidence of its arrival can be seen in the green of the hedgerows, the growing warmth of the sun (when it appears!) and in the lifted moods of so many of us armed with the knowledge that Winter is behind us, and we have lovely long evenings, sunbathing, and beach picnics on the way.

Here in the shop we’re truly embracing the season too, and all that comes with it. In particular, we’re looking at beautiful bright and colourful tablescapes, the creeping move towards al fresco dining, and of course generally embracing nature in all its glory. So, in true Harriet and Rose home-of-thoughtful-gifting style, we thought we’d introduce you to some of our Spring favourites that are drawing some of the brightness of the welcomed season into our lives!

Just a few weeks ago we received plenty of brand new jugs, mugs and table essentials that are dotted all around the shop and bringing lots of lovely brightness to our displays. This year fruit and vegetable tableware is on trend, in a throwback to the vintage cabbage wear and vegetable ceramics that were so popular in the ‘60s to the ‘80s. So of course, we had to indulge in them too! We have bold yellow lemon shaped jugs (in two sizes!), lots of bell pepper bowls and plates, strawberry bowls and jugs as well as citrus dipping bowls. Perfect to inject some colour and fun into your living spaces, and to create a pretty spring centrepiece. In the vintage theme we also have our Gurgly fish jugs in stock in apple greens, pale blues, bright corals and bold oranges - which equally are beautiful this time of year.

Alongside these, we’ve also stocked up with plenty of patterned paper napkins (something we are often asked for!) in a myriad of different prints for every aesthetic, as well as lots of candle stick holders - clear glass, coloured glass, glazed ceramic and bobbled ceramic - for taper candles. If you are planning an Easter tablescape or centrepiece…then look no further than our displays (for both inspiration and the perfect pieces!).

And really what better way to welcome spring into your home than some bright taper candles! We have some beautiful orchid pinks, primrose yellows and grass greens to reflect the lightness of the season, as well as more muted pale duck egg blues, pearl white and petrol blues too if that is more your colour palate. We love candles, especially our vegetable wax tapers, because not only do they provide an intense pop of colour, but they burn cleanly and last well too! Perfect for candlelit dinners, outdoor tablescapes, or to provide a softer, more gentle light in the evenings.

As the natural world around us is beginning to awaken, it is a great time to cast our minds to outside life, towards foraging and spending time near the sea! We have ordered in plenty of foraging and gardening books that line our shelves in our upstairs library, as well as our popular canvas ‘foraging stuff’ bags - perfect for all the essentials that you made need on your adventures. Being outside in nature this time of year is a wonderful experience for all ages - whether that be walking, meeting with friends, foraging in the hedgerows, or enjoying the blooming flowers from a park bench - and one that we can begin to savour with the turn of the weather.

Year round we have a sea-themed section of our upstairs, with sea-swimming books and related items. As the days begin to warm, we all (the non-seasoned swimmer amongst us) begin to think about braving a dip, and the joy of spending time at the beach as spring progresses into summer. Perhaps you have a friend who loves sea swimming, or you yourself are curious about the benefits of cold water swimming. Our sea-swimming section has plenty to pique your interest, and help you plan towards those warm late spring days that ask for an invigorating plunge. We have plenty of sea-swim and beach stuff bags in stock too which are perfect for all those little bits and pieces - including brand new waterproof wet bags. Beach stuff bags in particular can be used year round - for those of you that love to find shells and sea glass on the beach, to suncream and sunglasses in the summer.

We have been raving about our OST striped t-shirts for a while, we know, but it is simply because we all love them so much! And they are the perfect wardrobe staple for spring, as they are light and airy (made from cotton) but not too thin that you feel chilly. Especially with the slightly changeable weather of spring, these accommodate all fluctuations in temperature, and look fabulous on all that try them. They are a staff staple, and it seems from the way they are flying out that you all adore them too! We lots of colour ways in stock at the moment, so if you’re thinking about snapping one up…don’t wait!

And if you want to up your wafting game this Easter weekend, look no further than our new in cotton block print dressing gowns…now in a knee length style! Perfect for the temperature shift for Spring, and available in lots of beautiful and bright patterns. At £60, they come in a a lovely patterned fabric bag like their longer counterparts, which can be reused for all manner of things. Although with this sunshine they’re selling quickly, so if you are interested - don’t wait!

Spring truly has sprung, and we are doing our very best to stock and merchandise the shop accordingly. This Easter weekend we are closed Good Friday, open our normal 10-5pm on Saturday, and then closed for both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. We will be open and ready for you Tuesday, and our opening hours revert to our usual 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. So pop in and be greeted by colour, excitement and all things fresh and new!
