Locally made gifts
Our Island is a bounty of small independent businesses and local artisans that create and make the most beautiful products. Quite often we think of locally made products as mostly bought as souvenirs by visitors to the Island, but these handmade goods are not just for tourists! When it comes to giving gifts as locals though, it can be easy to overlook what is right on our doorstep in favour of items online, or in larger chain stores. But the range of locally produced products is vast - from candles, to jewellery, to sea salt, and chocolate - and not only are these lovely to receive, but they also provide much needed support to our creative and entrepreneurial individuals on Island.
Harriet & Rose began by Harriet as a small venture during lockdown. If you’ve seen our Instagram posts, you’ll have seen the photos from her first ever pop-up at Jacksons. To look at the shop now, and how Harriet & Rose has grown and flourished is a testament to not only hard work and determination, but support from every customer that has shopped with us on Island from the start. We value small businesses and are passionate about helping up and coming local ventures succeed because after all, only by supporting small businesses can the high street and local economy continue to grow and thrive.
If you love jewellery, look no further than Emily Claire’s jewellery. Emily specialises in eco-friendly silversmithing methods, using recycled sterling silver and ethically sourced semi-precious gemstones, all made in Jersey in her studio. We have a range of her beautiful jewellery - including necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets - in our mini jewellery cabinets. Each comes in a hand dyed linen bag or hand stamped recycled box. The perfect gift for those who love timeless and ethical jewellery, the loveliest token of your care for those you cherish.
Clem, our Assistant Manager, also has a few pieces of her handmade gemstone and sterling silver jewellery available in the shop too. We stock her beaded semi-precious gemstone necklaces and bracelets, using ethically sourced gemstones and sterling silver.
If scented candles are more your recipients (or your!) cup of tea, we also have a range of Dani Ledo’s locally hand poured soy wax candles. Dani hand blends the scents, and each step of the process is carried out by hand in her studio. All her candles are vegan, cruelty free and hand-poured in amber glass vessels. Scents include Jasmine and Wild Mint, Mango and Neroli, Rose and Cassis amongst many more! There really is something for every taste, and they make the perfect ‘just because’ gift.
Jersey Skin’s cosmetics are some of our best sellers in the shop. You can find them in our ‘care’ section, as well as in many of our online care packages. Hand made in their shop, all products are made in-house with locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, as well as cruelty free. We stock the Netti bars (shower bars) which are made with shea butter, oatmeal and local apple pectin (and come in a range of delicious scents including Rose and Geranium, Bonne Nuit (lavender), Citrus, Pink Grapefruit, Rosemary and more!). As well as these, we have their scrub bars made with coffee - which are all vegan - and come in a range of scents too.
If you would like to explore a more consumable route, we have plenty of Jersey Sea Salt’s organic, solar evaporated salt in the shop. We stock the plain, lemon, pepper and chilli salt. These are perfect alongside a cookery book for a housewarming, or as a gift for those that love to indulge in the culinary arts. This time of year, the lemon sea salt is particularly popular - great on fish, meats or margaritas (or all three at once!).
And for our chocolate lovers, look no further than local chocolatiers Ganache! We have a select range of their delicious chocolate tablettes, including dark, dark-milk and vegan chocolate. Made by Glenn and Constance from their local atelier, you can be assured that you are enjoying the highest quality chocolate (and we can assure you from our taste testing as a team, they are truly delicious!!).
A summary of our Jersey goodies couldn’t be rounded off without talking about our Jersey cushions, tote bags and tea towels. Designed by a local artist, our Harriet & Rose Jersey goods are printed in the UK on cotton, and make wonderful gifts. We have had them bought by visitors and those that no longer live here as mementos of their trip to the Island - including one couple that bought a cushion to commemorate their engagement out West in the Island. Being able to create and provide such a memento for our beautiful Island is truly something special.
Whether you are after something for yourself, or a loved one, local gifts are the way to go! There’s plenty of choice, plenty of beautiful items, and plenty of products and brands that will become your new essentials. And we will also have something Jersey-related (and very exciting) coming soon…so watch this space. Have a pop in and browse all our lovely local products, the Team are here Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and we are always here to assist with gifting ideas and dilemmas alike!
