Say goodbye to digital eye strain!
Less screen time is always easier said than done, as with work, lifestyle commitments and all other things, it can be very difficult to not be on a device. After all, so much of our lives seem to now be online, whether that be on a phone, tablet or laptop!
So we’ve taken that on board (and as serial headache and migraine sufferers!) and have found a brilliant solution…Blue Light glasses!
So, what is blue light? And why are glasses blocking it beneficial? How do they work? All fair questions, and luckily, we’re on hand to answer them!
Blue light - or blue-violet light - refers to the visible portion of the light spectrum that can be seen by our eyes. This is why we can see the sky as blue (although, there’s not much of that at the moment!). Blue light is also responsible for regulating our circadian rhythms of our body - or in layman’s terms: the way our body works with its sleep and wake cycles, as well as hormone production and all the fancy things our bodies do - so it is in many ways fundamental. It is naturally emitted by the sun, but artificially emitted by technology screens, such as computers, phones, and tablets. Moderate exposure is beneficial (such as that from the sun) but overexposure can cause problems such as eye strain, migraines, and headaches. Exposure at night in particular can affect our sleep (by disrupting our natural circadian rhythms) and computer vision syndrome can appear.
Barner’s glasses protect against eye strain from continuous use of devices, such as during the work day in front of a computer (or a nighttime perusal of social media) covering all aspects of comfort, performance, and style. The glasses both reflect and absorb blue light, which means that eyes appear noticeably more rested and relaxed when using digital screens thanks to a special coating on the lens. The organic CR-39 lenses block 100% of blue light under 410nm and 45% on the 410-450nm spectrum (which is the most damaging for our eyes). The lenses are also hydrophobic, anti-static, easy to clean, and anti-scratch - so prove very durable! The frames are also ergonomically designed for comfort and daily wear (so no behind the ear pain), and are made from sustainable materials. We have a small but curated collection of designs available: something for everyone, no matter your face shape, style, or preference of colour!
Blue Light glasses are especially recommended for those who spend prolonged periods in front of screens, and the lenses have been designed to be both optimally clear and protected to allow for maximum colour sensitivity. This is perfect for those such as graphic designers, video or photo editors, or any other professions in which seeing true colour is a requirement. Equally, anyone whose profession is heavily reliant on hours in front of a screen would benefit from these too.
We also like Barner because they are B-Corp approved (yay!). This certification is only awarded to a company when they have gone above and beyond basic corporate responsibility, meaning they are champions in sustainability, ethical working conditions, present in the community, and have high product quality, which fits with our ethos at Harriet and Rose. Each purchase of a set of glasses from Barner allows for a tree to be planted, as well as a donation of prescription glasses to those in need. Over 500 million people in developing countries are reported to be living with sever visual impairment due to lack of access to reading glasses, surmounting to be one of the biggest global health and economic problems. Barner’s scheme begins to scratch the surface of this, enabling people to live, work, read and perform daily tasks that sighted people take for granted. So not only can you enjoy your glasses, but you can know that your purchase is helping both the environment and those in need.
As always, the Team is always on hand to help with any questions (and try-ons!). So if you’ve been thinking of buying a pair for a while…perhaps here’s your sign!
